let's get down to business

Today, I had a meeting with my counselor.
I went in expecting to get some assurance of my choice in career, and that I'd be able to apply for the Elementary/Deaf Education program in October.
WELL...sometimes life throws you a
 CURVE BALL.

Now, I don't mean that I got the sudden inspiration to become a polysci major, but I got things...straightened out, and there are definitely some changes I hadn't been expecting.
I met with my counselor, and the first thing she told me, was that I wouldn't be able to apply for the program by October--which came as kind of a blow to my plan and emotions. She could tell that I was feeling rather put-out, but she reassured me and said, "Don't worry! You've got plenty of time, you're going to be fine!" So, we continued on in our effort to straighten out the mess that was my future college plan. We established that by applying for the program next March, I'd have all the extra classes done, so that I'd be ale to focus on my practicums...that was reassuring! Also, I haven't been feeling very confident in my choice to do Deaf Education, and my advisor told me that I can do Elementary Education with an emphasis in Sign Language! I only need 2 more credits to complete my emphasis requirements! More good news!

So, if I apply for the program in March, I'll enter the program in Fall of 2012, starting with LEVEL II, I'll take my Transition in Spring of 2013, I'll have to take one class in the summer of 2013, I will take my LEVEL III practicum in Fall of 2014, and I'll finish off with LEVEL IV (student teaching) in the spring of 2014!! RIGHT ON SCHEDULE!!!!!!!!!

GAHHHH I'm so so so so so so excited! I can't wait to start on my education! Now, when I finish, I'll be 22. Not bad, eh?? And of course, life may have more curve balls to throw my way, but I feel like I'll be ready for them. I plan on applying to be a Young Performing Missionary in Nauvoo, Illinois, in the summer of 2012. I have a feeling that that would be an excellent thing for me to do. Money is definitely a big factor in all of this...so applying for scholarships/finding a job will be numero uno on my list for the next little while. Actually, getting an A- in Math 1050 is my number one thing to do right now.

I feel so much more relaxed because my life is planned out. For the most part, I know what to expect. I know what to do in order to reach my goal. I'm going to have to work hard--17-18 credits a semester--but it'll be worth it.

DEFINITELY.
